WHO IS JOHN C. ISBELL

EDUCATION

John spent his formable years in Sumner County graduating from Beech High School. He went onto Volunteer State Community College before earning his B.B.A. in Business Finance & M.B.A. from Middle Tennessee State University. He is currently a PhD student in Public Policy at Tennessee State University with research interests centered on Payment in Lieu of Tax programs, government transparency, and accountability. The advanced studies in public policy and experience as a practitioner in conservative policymaking and implementation propel John as the most qualified conservative voice for Sumner County Mayor.

PUBLIC SERVICE

John currently serves as the Assessor of Property for Sumner County, Tennessee and has held that elected position since 2004.  During his tenure, John has worked tirelessly to implement new technological standards garnering numerous awards for innovation.  He has served on the state association’s policy committee for the past five years guiding common sense tax policy for citizens.  John’s work has earned the respect of his industry peers by being chosen the 2007 TnAAO Assessor of the Year, 2011 TnAAO State Leadership Award and 2013 IAAO Member of the Year.  Most recently John received the state chapter of IAAO’s Ray J. Kennedy Award for excellence in education. John has served on the state association’s (TnAAO) board of directors since 2008. In 2013, John was elected to the international association’s (IAAO) board of directors for the term 2014-2016. John has served as a senior national instructor with IAAO in the area of assessment administration as well as partnering with University of Tennessee’s County Technical Assistance Services (CTAS) and TnAAO to develop and teach seminars on best practices in assessment administration across the state.
